Shrub Oak Basketball Update
As of today basketball has not been approved as a safe sport by New York State so with that and also the School District is not allowing the community to use there buildings for after school activities our Girls & Boys Programs are on hold till further guidance from the state and school district . We will keep you updated as we get further guidance. Hopefully we will be able to have winter activities for our children sometime this winter.
It is with a very heavy heart that we have to share this news with our members.
Our Director of Girls’ Softball, Michael Houlahan, passed away after a long, courageous battle with 9/11 related cancer. A retired NYC police detective, Mike was also a devoted father, husband and a dedicated advocate of all children.
For over 18 years, Mike donated thousands of hours of his personal time as a softball and basketball coach and as the Director of Girls’ Softball. During this time he positively impacted hundreds of young athletes and their families.
Mike believed passionately that all children should have a place to play sports, regardless of talent or experience. He was a man of the highest integrity who could be counted on to always do what was right for the kids.
As an organization we are fortunate to have had Michael as part of the SOAC and are deeply saddened that our friend is gone.
We send our deepest condolences to Mike’s family including his mother, brothers and two children Michael and Jenna.
