It is with a very heavy heart that we have to share this news with our members.
Early yesterday morning, our Director of Girls’ Softball, Michael Houlahan, passed away after a long, courageous battle with 9/11 related cancer. A retired NYC police detective, Mike was also a devoted father, husband and a dedicated advocate of all children.
For over 18 years, Mike donated thousands of hours of his personal time as a softball and basketball coach and as the Director of Girls’ Softball. During this time he positively impacted hundreds of young athletes and their families.
Mike believed passionately that all children should have a place to play sports, regardless of talent or experience. He was a man of the highest integrity who could be counted on to always do what was right for the kids.
As an organization we are fortunate to have had Michael as part of the SOAC and are deeply saddened that our friend is gone.
We send our deepest condolences to Mike’s family including his mother, brothers and two children Michael and Jenna.

With the growing number of cases of COVID-19 (coronavirus) and in compliance with the Governor’s directives, all SOAC activities are suspended until further notice. When the governor lifts the restrictions on public gatherings and schools have re-opened, SOAC will determine the best course of action with regard to our spring seasons. In addition to the Lakeland school facilities being closed, Yorktown Parks and Recreation have also closed all town parks (playgrounds, ballfields and swimming pools) until further notice. Our main concern is always the health and safety of our players, coaches, and volunteers. We will continue to update you on the situation as things change. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

Matching Donations - Published on: Saturday, February 5, 2011
Did You Know that many corporations have matching fund donations, or donations to programs where their employees volunteer their time?  SOAC is a 501c3 not-for-profit all-volunteer program that survives on our registration fees and donations.  IF YOU ARE A COACH or other volunteer, or just a parent, please check with your corporation about donations.  We receive funds for our sports from major companies such as Verizon, IBM, and even the NY Yankees due to their matching donation programs.  Help keep the costs down for our kids!
