SOAC CHEERLEADING is a program that teaches the fundamentals of stunting, cheer motions, and dance in order to provide the girls with the basic cheerleading skills. As they progress, the stunting and dances become more advanced. This will give them the skills necessary at the high school level. Tumbling skills are a plus as this skill is needed for competition routines.

Choreography for competition routines:
Extra dates are added for teams to learn their competition routines – Could be Friday nights, Saturdays, or Sundays at Extreme Force All-Stars in Mahopac. We appreciate everyone’s flexibility and attendance when they are scheduled.
TUMBLING:
Tumbling is a key part of cheerleading today. We have a relationship with Extreme Force All-Stars and they offer many classes and packages. However, any tumbling classes at any gym would be beneficial to the cheerleader. Tumbling is highly recommended for those who wish to compete.
UNIFORMS:
There is a separate cost for uniforms. In person fittings/sizing is necessary for those who do not have uniforms. Dates for fittings will be in June.
FOOTBALL GAMES: ** ALL GIRLS ARE TO CHEER AT FOOTBALL GAMES
Saturdays or Sundays – Times TBD – (could be mornings or evenings)
Locations: LHS if home – away games could be anywhere from Putnam Valley to Pelham
** Game schedules are not out until late August -- first game will be early September. **
** As soon as schedules are available, we will send them out **
PINK GAME (Breast Cancer Awareness): In coordination with the Lakeland football and cheerleading teams, the SOAC football and cheer teams participate in the annual “Pink Game” to raise money for Breast Cancer Research and bring awareness of the disease. The SOAC Cheerleaders will perform with the Lakeland cheerleaders during the half-time of the Lakeland Football game. This is a wonderful community event and our goal is to exceed the previous year’s amount. NOTE: **The price of a pink shirt and bow for each cheerleader has been incorporated into the cheer registration fee. Additional pink shirts (bows) for family members will be sold separately prior to the game. Get them early as they usually do NOT have any the night of the game.
CHEER COMPETITIONS: The most exciting part of cheerleading is competing. It is not mandatory for everyone to compete. Depending on how many girls register, there may be tryouts for the competition. PLEASE NOTE: In order to compete, we ask that you be committed to the team and its practices/tumbling during the season (additional fee will be required for tumbling). People are placed in specific positions for each routine. It is extremely difficult to change formations and/or stunt groups at the last minute. Cheerleading is a sport that utilizes all of its members on the floor/field at the same time. Everyone has a specific job. In order for the team to be successful, they all need to be in attendance as much as possible. All teams will compete in approximately 3 local competitions.
