After an exciting and successful football season, the SOAC Varsity cheerleaders buckled down for their competitions. The full team of 32 girls took Second Place at Yorktown on December 17 and First Place at Walter Panas on January 17. Our “Nationals or Travel Team” went on to take First Place at Cheer Challenge on January 28; Second Place and the Spirit Award at Pine Bush on February 17; and Fifth Place at Best in Danbury on March 3. The teams’ performances were fabulous and their skills advanced with each competition. The coaches (Marlene Maccarrone, Mary Gordon, Jeannie Massotti, Margie Telesco, and Tracy Buchanan) wish all the eighth grade girls the best of luck in high school, and we look forward to another successful season next year with the returning girls. The team wants to express their thanks to Mary Gordon for all of her coaching expertise over the last three years and wishes her much success in the future.

SOAC JV cheerleaders competed for the first time in the history of the club. The team, consisting of fourth, fifth, and sixth grade girls, took Second Place at Yorktown on December 17 and First Place at Putnam Valley on February 4. Their hard work and determination certainly paid off and also made it an extremely enjoyable season. We look forward to working with all the returning girls and wish the sixth graders luck on Varsity next year.

Thank you.
Marlene Maccarrone
