SHRUB OAK HORNET FOOTBALL fields several travel tackle football teams in the Tri-County Football League and the Tri-County/Scarsdale Cross-Over League. The Junior Varsity teams are comprised of 5th & 6th graders and the Varsity teams are made up of 7th & 8th graders. Each team plays 6 to 8 games each season. The games are played on Sunday mornings for the JV and Saturday or Sunday mornings for the Varsity. The games begin in the middle of September and run through the first week of November. All home games will be played on the turf field at Lakeland High School. We practice four days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday) until school starts and then go to a 3 day schedule (Tuesday, Thursday & Friday). Practices begin at 5:45pm and run until 8pm.

HORNET FOOTBALL is a feeder program for Lakeland High School.* We run Lakeland's offense and formations to prepare the players for high school ball. Our objective is threefold: 1) teach the players the fundamentals of football 2) teach them the importance of teamwork and 3) teach them to love playing the greatest game on earth. Our coaching staff has years of coaching experience and all coaches have either played high school or college ball.

*SOAC has children compete in their programs from Yorktown as well as surrounding towns. The football program does the same!

REGISTRATION: The registration fee is $175 along with a $175 equipment deposit which will be returned when the players hand in their equipment at the end of the season. The players are provided with full equipment and will receive a practice jersey and team t-shirt. All a player needs is a pair of football cleats and an athletic cup.

HORNET FOOTBALL CAMP: Once again this summer, the Shrub Oak Football program will be offering all players a chance to participate in the Hornet Mini-Camp which is run by Lakeland Head Coach Rob Capelli and his staff. The camp will be held at Lakeland High School on the turf field and will run from 9am to noon. The sessions will be held during the first 2 weeks of July. The fee for the camp is $160 which covers the cost of the camp and a camp T-shirt. All players who wish to participate in the camp must be registered to play Shrub Oak Football for the 2009 season.

HORNET FLAG FOOTBALL: This league is made up of 6 to 8 teams for 3rd and 4th graders. As an accommodation to parents and their busy schedules, practices and games will be on Saturdays only. Teams can practice ½ hour before game time. The games are held on the upper grass field at Lakeland HS. The teams play 7 to 8 games, culminating in a Championship Series under the lights on the turf field the 2nd week of November. There will be 3 games, with each team either winning a gold or silver medal. The fee for Flag football (3rd & 4th grade) will be $75. Coaches are needed.
