The Shrub Oak Athletic NewsApril 8th, 2005 Volume I Issue 2 From the Desk of the President As the winter season ends, I would like to thank all of the club and board members for their cooperation in our transition period from the old board of directors to the current board. It was a very smooth transition in which we were able to accomplish our objectives – to make sure the children of our community have the best sports activities possible. I want to thank the basketball directors Pat McCabe and Tim Guerra for a successful basketball season. Special thanks to Joe Falcone, Collette Goodman, Frank Doherty, and Mike Delucia for the time they put in running our concessions. The concessions are a very important part of the program, and helps keep the basketball program the best in the area. Thanks to Gina Italiano for the success of the cheerleading competitions. Also, many thanks to John Volpi and Steve Fallo in keeping the baseball and softball programs going without missing a beat. The clinics were run very professionally. Many parents are already asking if we will have the clinics again next winter. Special thanks to Debbie Silver, Randy Reed and Dan Kelly in helping make baseball-softball registrations run smoothly. As we move into the spring season, I know we’ll all lend a hand to Ken Kostik and Randy Reed when they ask for help with the Lacrosse and Soccer programs. Steve Rosen Cheerleading Enters New Era With practices 3 to 4 times a week and extended practices on Saturday, they put their heart and soul into their routines. The hard work paid off. They took 3rd place in their first competition and 2nd place in the next, just missing a win by a mere 15 points. Mary Aquilino who started the club with Gina Italiano and Chrissy Massello 3 years ago came back to help the kids prepare for the competitions. She really helped make the girls look amazing. To celebrate their success, the squad had a season ending party at Piazza Roma. They all developed a very strong bond, and can’t wait for fall to come and the start of the new season. In the meantime, they are preparing for their annual show at Family Day. Special thanks to the JV and Pep squads for their great football seasons and rooting for competition team. Basketball Wrap Up This Season’s challenges were driven primarily by the weather, with 4 separate snow cancellations and the loss of the Thomas Jefferson Elementary school gym because of damage from frozen pipes. We are happy to report that by extending the season an additional week, making up games during the week, and by moving our girls bantam program to Lincoln Titus Elementary school not a single game was missed. The rewards as usual came from witnessing each week the improvement in play, the smiles on our player’s faces (win or lose) and the sportsmanship displayed by all of our players in every age group. Special thanks to John DiVernieri and Erin Goodman who scheduled all the referees for the program each week. Erin we will miss you and good luck in South Bend!!! Special Thanks to all the league commissioners, who dedicated numerous hours
during the course of the season. |
