Welcome to the Shrub Oak Little League's
Single A Division, previously known as the Bantam Division is for players in kindergarten and first grade (5-6 years old). The "A" Division is the next level up from our Rookie Ball Division. While the "A" Division is completely instructional, it introduces more advanced facets of the game of baseball. This division continues to use a safety ball; however, players are now hitting live pitches from a coach and are no longer hitting off of a batting tee. As the season progresses, games begin to become more game like with more of an emphasis of the rules of the game, outs recorded, strikeouts, introduction of the catching position, etc. Both practices/games continue to be geared to teaching fundamental skills and having fun. Catching, throwing, hitting, fielding, and game concepts are a major part of all instruction. Our "A" Division will play twice a week (once during the week and on Saturday's) for 90 minutes during the spring season and just Saturday's for 90 minutes in the fall. Players will continue to learn and practice how to be part of a team (such as how to respect teammates, coaches, other players; how to wait their turn; and how to show good sportsmanship). This is not a competitive division. No score will be kept for games. Player/coach ratio is larger than Rookie ball but remains small to maximize an optimal baseball learning environment.
