The
Majors program for players in 6th grade and up (ages 11-13) is the beginning of the transition from the little league field to the 90' diamond by playing 50/70. The pitcher's mound is 50' from home plate and the baselines are 70' long. Base leading is allowed at this level. Pitchers will learn how to legally control the running game in a competitive game. Games will be officiated by umpires, scores will be kept, and playoffs will be introduced towards the end of the season for the spring season only. The majors program combines to play teams from the Yorktown Athletic Club. Teams will practice/play twice a week in the spring (once during the week and on Saturday's) and once a week on Saturday's or Friday evenings in the fall. Each team will play games lasting six innings or approximately two hours. Players will continue to learn and practice how to be part of a team (such as how to respect teammates, coaches, other players; and how to show good sportsmanship). All travel baseball players playing on the 11 and 12 and under programs must participate in the spring in house program to be eligible to play travel baseball. Player's who are 13 that do not play travel or participate on the school's modified team may be eligible to play as long as it does not compromise the safety of all players participating. The Director of Rec Baseball will have final discretion in regards to player's playing up or down a division.
