Effective as of the Spring 2017 Season, The Hudson Valley Chapter of US Lacrosse will be following Age-Based groupings.
Shrub Oak boys lacrosse will be following these guidelines with some modifications. Below are the age group breakdowns. Please check to see if your child is affected this Spring or next Spring.

Your child's birth date will be the first criteria used to determine division placement. However Shrub Oak Athletic Club will give the parents permission to decide to have their child stay with their grade if their birth date allows for that option.
For example:
1. Child is in 3rd grade, but birth date is September 3rd, 2010. The child is permitted to play with the Bantam Division - 9U/10U - 3rd/4th grade group because of current grade or they can do the clinic again because they meet that age requirement for 8U.
2. Child is in 7th grade, but birth date is September 17, 2006 - This child has the option of staying with their grade group Senior Division (currently 7th/8th 14U/13U) or playing age appropriate and playing in the Junior Division 12U/11U (6th/5th) grade group due to their birth date falling in the 12U range.
The division you choose to register your son in must be made at the time of registration. Once registration is complete, switching divisions will not be an option at any time.
These are the divisions we offer:
- Instructional - (6U/7U/8U) K-2nd grade clinic
- Bantam – (9U/10U) 3rd and 4th grade
- Junior – (11U/12U) 5th and 6th grade
- Senior – (13U/14U) 7th and 8th grade
US Lacrosse is also recommending the Bantam (9U/10U) division play 7v7 on smaller fields. Based on field availability, coaching staff, team size, and program we are playing against, SOAC Lacrosse will lean towards 7v7 play with the potential for a full size field 10v10 from time to time.
Division Descriptions
The Hudson Valley Chapter of US Lacrosse, the governing body of our program, is requesting that all programs that have enough players to field grade specific teams do so, with this request our program will be fielding grade specific teams for the 2019 Spring Season. Each division listed above will have a grade specific team (ie. 7th grade team & 8th grade team in the Senior division). Pending registration numbers, there is a possibility of having a third combined grade team at each division comprised of players who need more skill development (ie. 7/8th Grade combined team). An exception to grade specific teams will be if there are not enough players at one grade level to field a full team. In this case, the grade levels will be combined and teams will be made from there. The player evaluations (see below) will be used to determine a players placement on a team and the skill level of that team.
Instructional 6U/7U/8U (K-2nd grade)
This division is operated in a clinic environment. Basic skills like throwing and catching will be taught, along with basic fundamentals of the game. We will meet two days a week, consisting of practices and games as the season progresses. We anticipate it will be held at Lakeland High School on Sundays starting at approximately 9am, and at Van Cortlandtville Elementary School on Fridays starting at 6pm. As the season progresses the 1st and 2nd grade teams may play modified scrimmages/games against neighboring towns. There may be times when the 1st and 2nd grade teams play on another day during the week to accommodate a game or tournament but this will be rare. The kindergarten team will not have games due to the fact that no other towns have their kindergarten teams playing games so we have no one to match up with. Contact is limited at this age group, though at any age lacrosse remains a contact sport.

Priority on all teams will be given to players within the Lakeland Central School District first. In an effort to optimize our coaching expertise the one exception to this rule will be if the parent of a player who resides outside the Lakeland Central School District is a coach on one of our teams
Practices:
Practices are mandatory for all players on all teams throughout the Shrub Oak Lacrosse program. Playing time will be affected for players that miss practice. If you have a conflict, please discuss with your son’s coach as soon as possible.
**All programs are subject to change**
We stress that winning of the contest is secondary to the development of ALL players.
